Being a carer can mean different things to different people:
- If you are looking after a friend or relative, who could not manage without your help, you are a carer.
- You might be a young carer, looking after a parent or sibling.
- If your child is disabled, you are both a parent and a carer.
- Or you could be juggling bringing up children with caring for a vulnerable elderly relative or close friend.
For some, becoming a carer can be sudden: a person you love is taken ill or has an accident, or your child is born with a disability. For others, caring creeps up unnoticed: your parents can’t manage on their own any longer, your partner’s health gets gradually worse....
