Living independently

By the time a young person reaches their teens they often have friends or people they want to keep in contact with. Given time and the right support they may think about living together in a shared home.

Take a look at the Home Wiki (still a draft).

A young person and their family might feel that the time is right for a young person to live independently. There is a range of services available, although like all young people, you will discover that finding and affording your own home in Wandsworth is not easy.  There are ways of sharing your family home, so you can have more independence and freedom of choice.

The Housing Section of this website has more about your options, which include:

Social Housing - renting a home from the council and/or housing associations

Renting a home privately

Buying a home (including shared ownership)

Inheriting a home

Supported Housing can help you live an independent life in any of the above

Residential Care
