Smallwood Short Breaks Holiday Playcentre
The Christ Church and Smallwood short breaks offers are provided by Wandsworth Borough Council’s Early Years and Intervention Support Service (EYISS). They are primarily for Wandsworth resident children aged 3 – 11 years who attend a Wandsworth Resource Base. If places are available other Wandsworth children with SEND can attend if they have an EHCP and are referred by a SENCo. EYISS will then assess whether the short breaks provision is suitable and the child’s needs could be met within a 1:4 staffing ratio and they have a similar profile of needs with the other children attending.
The short breaks provision will be held at Smallwood School, Smallwood Road, Tooting SW17 and Christ Church School, Batten Street, Battersea SW11.
Each child will be entitled to the short breaks offer of 25 days, which can be used whenever the inclusive holiday playcentres at Smallwood and Christ Church Schools are open. This is 48 days a year, made up of Easter 9 days, Whitsun half term 4 days, summer 25 days, October half term 5 days and February half term 5 days. Transport to and from the centres is not provided.
Bookings need to be made at least two weeks before the holiday starts. This will make sure EYISS have the correct and appropriate staffing required to meet each child’s needs.

Children who attend a Resource Base in the Wandsworth Borough and are aged 3-11 years are eligible to attend the short breaks provision at either Smallwood playcentre or Christchurch playcentre. A member of the EYISS team will confirm that the children attend a School Resource Base in the Borough of Wandsworth. When confirmation is obtained the parent/carer will have to complete an EYISS ‘all about me form’ and if they have an EHCP this will also need to be submitted. This information will then be forwarded to the Service Lead for assessment as to whether the Short Breaks provision would be suitable.
If it is agreed that the service is suitable for the child/ren the parent/carer will need to register on the EYISS booking website www.wandsworth.gov.uk/psbo. The parent/carer will then have to email EYISSchildcare@wandsworth.gov.uk to make the booking and a member of the EYISS team will respond to the parent/carer and complete the booking. If they state they are entitled to the concessionary rate proof of this will need to be provided prior to the booking being confirmed. If the evidence of this is not forthcoming the parent/carer will be charged at the full rate of £12 per day.
IMPORTANT: the deadline for the parents and carers is two weeks prior to each holiday week beginning date to ensure the most suitably trained or experienced staff are employed.
Priority for places at the Christchurch and Smallwood short breaks schemes will be given to children who attend Resource Bases. Wandsworth children with SEND can attend if they have an EHCP and are referred by a SENCo. EYISS will then assess whether the short breaks provision is suitable and the child’s needs could be met within a 1:4 staffing ratio and they have compatible needs with the other children attending. A SENCo referral can be made by emailing the child’s latest EHCP to EYISSchildcare@wandsworth.gov.uk. The email must be titled ‘PLAYCENTRE REFERRAL’ and include a short description of the child's needs, including any diagnosis described on their Plan. This information will then be forwarded to the Service Lead for assessment.
IMPORTANT: the deadline for any referrals from the Senco is two weeks prior to each holiday week beginning date to ensure the most suitably trained or experienced staff are employed.
