Surgical Services for Children at St George's includes emergency care, day surgery, as well as inpatient and outpatient care.
This service provides care for children aged from newborn to late teens, both before and following operations in an appropriate child-friendly environment. Many children's operations are offered on a day case basis, and operations are performed in operating theatres used primarily by paediatric surgeons with dedicated paediatric anaestheists and theatre staff.
St George’s Hospital is the regional center of excellence for emergency surgical conditions in children. It has a paediatric intensive care unit, and a full range of tertiary specialties such as cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, interventional radiology all under one roof. This means that when a child is seriously unwell and needs an urgent operation, all the expertise required for a successful outcome is available immediately in one place.
