Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
The Picture Exchange Communication System (Or PECS for short) is an augmentative/alternative communication system developed in America in the 1980's.
It is designed to help non-verbal children, especially those on the autistic spectrum (and those with related developmental disabilities) to communicate and to learn. PECS is used in Wandsworth Special Schools such as Greenmead and Paddock.
Pyramid Educational Consultants Ltd is home of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) in the UK. They offer a wide range of training, consultation and support for educators and parents of children and adults with autism and related disabilities. As the only official training provider of PECS in the UK, they train and help thousands of people every year.
Pyramid run approximately 95 PECS workshops per year, and also offer training in behaviour management, sexual and social safety for those with additional needs plus the highly acclaimed ‘Language of Emotions’ and more.
