Southfields Academy Speech, Language and Communications Needs Resource Base
This Speech, Language and Communications Needs Resource Base at Southfields Academy is a specialist provision within a mainstream secondary school.
The Achievement Studio (TAS): The Achievement Studio is a supportive resource base for students who have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or Education Health and Care Plan for:
- Speech, Language Communication Needs
And / or
- Autistic Spectrum Disorders
The resource base is located in the heart of the school where it is easily accessible to all TAS students. The teaching methods in the base reflect the ways in which the individual students learn. Various strategies are employed to reduce distractions, increase concentration and make all work accessible to students.
Students access the mainstream academic lessons with support, and attend the majority of their lessons with their tutor group. Students typically access TAS once a week for a personalised learning package.
The Resource Base is staffed with specialist teachers, support assistants and therapists with expertise in speech, language and communications needs and autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) who work both in the base and with mainstream teachers.
