Picturehouse Education - Autism-Friendly Screenings

Picturehouse Education run educational screenings and events for Picturehouse cinemas.

Picturehouse Education are involved in running:

  • film and discussion events for Primary and Secondary schools and FE colleges;
  • autism friendly screenings for the public and for schools;
  • reminiscence screenings for lovers of classic film;
  • subtitled screenings for d/Deaf cinemagoers; and
  • a programme of Film Theory Adult Education classes and courses.

Picturehouse Education's Autism-Friendly Screenings are film screenings especially for people on the autistic spectrum or who have other learning difficulties or complex needs and their families, friends and carers. Some people with autism are sensitive to sound and light and they can find going to the cinema difficult. During Autism-Friendly Screenings low lights are left on in the auditorium and the volume of the soundtrack is reduced. It is fine for customers to move around, make noise or take a break during the film.
The Autism-Friendly Screenings take place at a number of cinemas, including Clapham Picturehouse and The Ritzy; please see the website for more information about upcoming screenings and venues.
