Trailblazers is a national charity that reduces re-offending among young people through providing volunteer mentors.
They are based in prisons and young offenders institutes across England, including HMP Wandsworth.
The aims of the mentors are to:
- increase self awareness;
- encourage changes in thinking, attitude and behaviour; and
- increase self esteem and confidence in the young offender.
The mentor will meet the young person roughly 6 months before their release date and have weekly meetings with them to build up a relationship and trust. After release the mentor and young person will still meet weekly, until the young person finds a job or is back in education.
