Childminding Brokerage Service

This is a service which helps Wandsworth Parents, Carers and Professionals to find appropriate childminders for children aged 0-8 years with disabilites or special educational needs. These placements may also include 2 year old Early Education and Childcare places or 3 - 4 year old nursery education.
The service also provides support to registered childminders and potential childminders with Ofsted, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) legal requirements and to develop high quality services for children with disabilities and special educational needs. This support may include:
- Observing, assessing and planning a child’s learning
- Access to training to support a child's needs
- Access to Early Years Service Toy Library
- Refering Childminders to Children Centre’s
The service supports parents/carers in choosing the right kind of provision for their child and matching specific childminders to their children's individual needs.
Childminders receive on-going support with working with the child and family. This could be by liaising with other professionals working with the family. The service supports childminders with any additional training to meet the child’s needs and this could involve professionals visiting the childminder's home to give ideas and strategies on caring for the child.

Referrals can be made by parents, carers and professionals via telephone or email. Once a referral is received, the service will make contact with the referrer to discuss the childcare needs. The service offers support to the referer and childminders on the initial visit and to support parent/carers with the settling-in process.
The service is accessible by:
- Referrals – from Parents, Carers or Professionals.
- Meet The Minder – Monthly sessions dates available on the Family Information Service website
- Through the Family Information Service
The Childminding Brokerage Service can also help parents, carers and professionals from other local boroughs to access Wandsworth Childminders.
Complaints, concerns or compliments about this service should be addressed initially to the Lead Childminding Development Officer. Alternatively, please contact Susan Reid, Deputy Head of Early Years and Intervention Support Service on 020 8871 8789 sreid@wandsworth.gov.uk
