Spear at Clapham Junction - Coronavirus

As you may know, due to COVID-19, our offices are now closed and our whole team is working remotely.

Despite this, we have been working hard to enable the last cohort of Spear trainees to complete the programme virtually, including mock interviews with some of our fantastic volunteers using Zoom.  Spear Celebration [] took place online last week, ensuring the trainees receive the much-needed affirmation of their achievements.  It’s been a challenge for the young people to adapt to this new way of working, but they have risen to the task admirably.
In the meantime, we have been exploring how the Spear Programme can continue to run effectively going forwards.  Sadly, we have concluded that it will be very difficult to recruit, engage and run our next cohort due to the group-based nature of the programme.  Together with our trustees, we have taken the decision to temporarily shift the focus of our time to support our local Wandsworth Foodbank, which operates from the same premises; however we are still allocating a day a week to Spear.

We want to reassure you that those young people who have completed the Spear Programme in Clapham Junction over the last year will continue to receive personal support in this incredibly challenging and confusing time.

We also want to explore how we might deliver the Spear Programme to a new cohort of young people remotely.  The whole country has been learning to flex in how we communicate, learn and relate over the past few weeks.  We will be assigning a team to innovate and test how Spear might do the same.

Spear is a free, interactive year long programme that not only gets you ready for work, but also helps you find, sustain and progress in employment or further training. 75% of Spear graduates are in employment or education and still there a year after completing Spear Foundation.
