The Walcot Foundation
The Walcot Foundation is an independent grant-making foundation. They aim to break the cycles of financial deprivation for people living in Lambeth.
Who can apply?
Men or women at least 18 years of age on a low income, living in the Borough of Lambeth. People currently living outside of the area but who are still considered to be Lambeth residents will also qualify for assistance. Grants are available to individuals in three main areas: helping students with costs; assisting with moving into work; developing exceptional talent.
What can I get?
- Financial assistance towards the cost of a first degree or first vocational qualification
- Up to £1,000 for non-childcare costs and up to £4000 for childcare costs to help young people from low-income households with the costs of post-secondary education, whether academic or vocational, that has a strong likelihood of leading to work.
- Benefits-to-work grants: One-off grants for vocational training and related activities for people who are trying to move from benefits to work. This can include the costs associated with taking on work experience.
How do I apply?
An application form is available from the trust or to download from the website. Applications can be made at any time and should be submitted through a recognised referral agency such as a social care agency, voluntary organisation, health worker, clergy or teacher. The trust aims to respond to applications from individuals within 6 weeks.
What is not funded?
No grants for: post-graduate studies or second degrees, personal development courses, study at private institutions, or career changes; course fees in cases where it is not clear that the applicant will be able to raise the balance of funds to complete the entire course; or the cost of goods or services already purchased.
If the applicant already has significant work experience with a reasonable level of responsibility, the trust will not fund further study.
