What To Do If You Miss the Nursery Application Deadline

If you have missed the application deadline for a September nursery place, there are a few things you can do.

There are a limited number of schools that allow children to start in January, but it would be best to start the following in the first instance:

1. Contact all of primary schools you are interested in your child attending and ask if you can go on the waiting list. There have been cases where a child can end up getting a place due a family moving or someone has applied for more than one school etc.  Schools do not usual take children in January, however last year there were approximately 200 places available.  So I think the waiting list is a very good option at this stage. Schools do not reopen until the first week of September.

2. Make enquiries at some private providers offering 3 year old places.  As you may be aware, some providers may offer ‘an additional service package’ – this is to cover additional services they may provide such as lunch, football, ballet etc. Therefore, it would be a good idea to find out what are these arrangements.

3. Wait until the last week in September/first week in October and then call the Early Education and Childcare Places (EECP) Team on 020 8871 7899.  Usually the EECP team would have compiled a list of schools with nursery class places still available and we will be able to give you this information.

If you are a working parent you may be able to claim the 30 hours entitlement. Please click on the following link
