Private Fostering

The Wandsworth Children’s Services Department assist people who are looking after children that are not their own. They make regular visits to the child or young person to ensure the overall standard of care provided meets their needs.
The service gives private fosterers information on the help and support available to them, through the council and other organisations.
Private Fostering is when a child aged under 16 years (or under 18 if disabled) is cared for on a full time basis, by an adult who is not their parent or an immediate relative, for a period of 28 days or more. This is a private arrangement made between the parent and the carer.
Examples of private fostering include:
- children with parents overseas
- children living with host families for a variety of reasons
- children on extended holiday exchange
For more information please look at our Private Fostering Leaflet or call or email using the contact details provided.
