Gifted and Talented
A ‘gifted and talented’ child is a term used for children who are achieving, or have the potential to achieve, at a level substantially beyond the rest of their peer group. However the terms ‘highly able’ and ‘more able’ are most common ones used in school.
This information is for parents and professionals who think a child may be gifted and talented.
In comparison with their peers, when engaged in their area of expertise, gifted and talented children will tend to:
- show a passion for particular subjects and seek to pursue them;
- work at a level beyond that expected for their years; and
- produce original and creative responses to common problems.
If you think your child may be ‘gifted and talented’, ask your child’s teacher about an assessment.
