Bickersteth Road Supported Accommodation Unit

51 Bickersteth Road is a supported accommodation service provided by the charity NewServol for people with mental health problems. It is available to people between the ages of 18 – 60. Bickersteth Road is a 24hr staffed scheme with three full time staff members; two female and one male.
It provides a range of practical, emotional and housing related support to clients including support, or advice, with:
- Accessing community services, education, employment and training
- Welfare benefits claims
- Managing personal income, developing budgeting skills, paying bills and managing debts
- Developing family and friendship networks
- Developing life skills, such as shopping, using local transport, cooking and looking after their home
- Maintaining a tenancy
- Taking prescribed medications
- Personal safety and security
Each client at the service has a keyworker that they meet regularly for support. Individual action plans are reviewed quarterly, and keyworkers and care coordinators support and advise clients who are moving on from Trinity Road.
The Bickersteth Road Unit works in partnership with Nottinghill/Presentation Housing.

Costs
- Details
- Rent is approximately £120 per week and is usually paid by the client's Housing Benefit. Clients pay a service charge of £11 per week that covers heating, water and electricity.

- Referral Details
This service is for adults from age 18 to 60 who are recovering from mental illness, including single homeless people with mental health problems. Clients must have a connection with a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) in the borough of Wandsworth.
Clients are considered:.
- Who are able to take medication with support, if necessary from our care staff.
- Who are able to cope with basic personal care tasks.
- Who are able and willing to participate in a rehab programme.
- Have a history of previous psychiatric treatment.
- Have a history of inappropriate behaviour.
- who either have no address, or could not return to the address if unsupervised.
- When admission to a psychiatric hospital is thought to be advisable, but not available, so long as none of the exclusion criteria apply.
